NEVER TOO LATE: THE EPIC JOURNEY OF A MAN AND A PROMISE
NEVER TOO LATE shares the story of a typical middle-aged single dad who desperately seeks a second chance at redemption. One summer night at a beachfront hotel he is summoned to the roof to deal with a "jumper," a lovesick fourteen year old boy ready to throw his life away. What occurs in those 1.3 seconds sets his epic journey in motion. The unlikely prospect of restarting a college education at age fifty was only the beginning. This wacky uncoordinated dreamer defies conventional wisdom by earning acceptance to a masters program so he can make good on a promise made to a dying boy. Humboldt State University LumberJack Football's Redwood Bowl provides the setting for Tim "Old School" Davidson to attempt something never before accomplished in NCAA history; to become the first fifty-plus true rookie ever to strap on the pads and play! Making the team as a walk-on does not come easy. He first has to break down his unfit body with the help of a Navy Special Ops Medic who becomes his trainer, mentor, guru and best friend. His journey harshly plunges us into the daily lives of "throwaway kids" struggling inside group homes for severely emotionally disturbed teens, juvenile halls, and the locker room, which all share some startling and unexpected similarities. It is a story of hope, told with unparalleled inside access to today's youth from a father's perspective, in a brutally honest way. NEVER TOO LATE is at its core a love story of courage, camaraderie, overcoming adversity, and never giving up. 1.3 seconds can be a lifetime. Sometimes it's all we get.
