Reader Review: Penelope needs to escape her brother and the only option open to her is marriage. Adam has been down on his luck for some time now and he thinks suicide will do (he is very drunk ofcourse). After a slight accident these two meet and Penelope manages to convince a drunk Adam to be her bridegroom in return for money. He accepts and they are married shortly after their encounter. A sober Adam regrets making this decision and wants an annulment but when he finds out that his wife will pay his debts and make no demands on him, he agrees to remain married. What started off as convenience for the two takes a turn for the better. He no longer feels the desire to bed his mistress or any other woman and decides to seduce his wife. We find out that Adam was sleeping with his good friends wife and that his guilt was not enough to stop him... Clarissa became an obsession to him and escaping her cluthes was difficult. When this friend makes a move on his wife, he begins to understand how he wronged his friend (though he felt guilty he finally understood what it felt like to watch it happen). Ofcourse nothing happens but just the thought does him in. I thought he was a hypocrite. Bed his friends wife but get all angry when his friend tries it on his own. I was very disappointed that he could do such a thing to a friend and I this is why I gave it 3.5 stars.

| Note | ePub, short for electronic publication is one of our favorites and should be yours for a couple of reasons. ePub offers reflowable text giving you flexibility to manipulate how the digital content is presented. Moreover, lots of cool features are now being developed for the reader like advanced video and audio. ePub is now an industry standard, so all of the device manufacturers are now supporting it?. except of course those two proprietary (ie: we don't want you to have a choice) online behemoths: Apple and Amazon - who seek to chain you like a trailer park dog forever to their devices. Three years from now, we predict ePub will rule the eBook landscape. |
Miss Winthorpe's Elopement
There was no reason to rush since hurrying would not change the results of the trip. Her brother had accused her of being too prone to impulsive actions. Seeing her hare down the hall every time the front door opened would reinforce his view that too much education and too much solitude were affecting her nerves.
But her package was two days late, and it was difficult to contain her anticipation. She rose eagerly with every knock at the door, hoping each one to be the delivery she'd been expecting.
In her mind, she was already holding the package, hearing the rustle of crisp, brown paper, running her fingers along the string that held it in place. She would cut the twine with the scissors on the hall table, and the book would be in her hands at last. She imagined she could smell the fresh ink and the paper, caress the leather of the binding, and feel the gold-embossed title under her fingertips.
And then, the best part: she would take it back to the library and cut the pages open, spread them carefully, turning each one and catching glimpses of words without really reading, not wanting to spoil the surprise, even though she knew the story, almost by heart.
At last, she would ring for tea, settle into her favourite chair by the fire, and begin to read.
It would be heaven.
When she got to the hall, her brother was sorting through a stack of letters. The post had come, but there was no sign of a package from the book seller.
'Hector, did a delivery arrive
