Reader Review: I absolutely could not put this book down. Lucien captured me from the very beginning. I love how the author went straight to the point -- Lucien realizing he needs Alice in his life and it was so difficult for him to let go of the walls he put around himself and trust this goddess that would indeed save Lucien.
Gaelen Foley has become one of the hottest new writers in romance, enticing her readers with bold love stories that burn with emotional intensity. Now in new novel, she presents her most unforgettable hero yet, the irresistible Lord of Fire.
After years of preparation, he has baited his trap well, luring the depraved members of Society into his devil’s playground so he can earn their trust and uncover their secrets. Yet no one in London suspects that Lord Lucien Knight is England’s most cunning spy, an officer who has sacrificed his soul for his country. Now an unexpected intruder has invaded his fortress of sin, jeopardizing his carefully laid plans–and igniting his deepest desires.
Beautiful, innocent, Alice Montague finds herself at the mercy of scandalous Lord Lucien. But as he begins his slow seduction to corrupt her virtue, Alice glimpses a man tormented by his own choices, a man who promises her nothing except his undeniable passion. . . .

Lord of Fire
Shadows sculpted his sharp profile as he watched the crowded ballroom from the dim, high balcony; in the oscillating glow of the draft-buffeted wall candle, he seemed to flicker in and out of materiality like some tall, elegant phantom. Its shifting radiance glimmered over his raven-black hair and caught the Machiavellian glint of cunning in his quicksilver-colored eyes. Patience. Everything was in order.
Preparation was all, and he had been meticulous. With a musing expression, Lord Lucien Knight lifted his crystal goblet of burgundy to his lips, pausing to inhale its mellow bouquet before he drank. He did not yet know his enemies’ names or faces, but he could feel them inching closer like so many jackals. No matter. He was ready. He had laid his trap and baited it well, with all manner of sin and sex and the siren’s whisper of subversive political activity that no spy could resist.
There was nothing left to do now but watch and wait.
Twenty years of war had ceased this past spring with Napoleon’s defeat, abdication, and exile to the Mediterranean island of Elba. It was autumn now, and the leaders of Europe had gathered in Vienna to draw up the peace accord; but any man with half a brain could see that until Bonaparte was moved to a more secure location farther out in the Atlantic, Lucien thought dryly, the war was not necessarily over. Elba was but a stone’s throw from the Italian mainland, and there were those who opposed the peace—who saw no profit for themselves in the Bourbon King Louis XVIII’s return to the throne of France and who wanted Napoleon back. As one of the British Crown’s most skilled s

This book...the second in the Knight series...is a huge disappointment. The novel starts out well and really caught my interest. Unfortunately, by the time Alice gets to the Grotto, everything takes a nose dive. What a shame. Both Lucien and Alice are so out of character for who they are supposed to be, and BOTH are so sticky sweet, that all I could do is roll my eyes out of sheer embarrassment for the author. He is supposed to be a big, bad spy for goodness sake, and she is supposed to be strong enough to take care of her dead brother's wife and son. I just don't know where Ms Foley thought she was going with these two. It got so bad that I had to stop reading the book before I hit page 600. I can only take so much treacle before my eyes glue shut. I'm going on to the next book in the series about Lucien's twin bother, Damien. I hope it's a lot better as I have already gotten it. This is a problem when you order a bundle...you can get stuck big time. I'll wait to read the entire series as I have already have it, before I pass judgement on buying both bundles. Hopefully, Ms Foley gets her groove back with Lord of Ice. I just don't see how she can do worse than Lord of Fire, so things will have to get better!
