Reader Review: Ghost is a book that is carefully constructed and ends up being a very intricate, complex beginning of a very fascinating quartet. To be frank, the only things I don't like about the book has more to do with personal preference. If anyone has read Carole Cummings other books (Aisling), then you know that she never writes a simple story (I mean this in a GOOD way). This isn't the kind of story you read and can predict what will happen right away. The plot is carefully constructed and is all, but linear. The characters are all three-dimensional. In fact, the story switches perspective among the different characters so often that you feel like you KNOW them just as much as the main characters. Basically, the characters are unique and you can't help but like them (the good ones anyway). I can't really say there is a character that is "just there." They are all meaningful in some way. With the things I don't like. The main problem I have is with so many FLASHBACKS. I would say a good 1/3 to 1/2 of the story is made up of flashbacks of Jacin-rei's past. The execution of the flashbacks was done well. However, I am not a personal fan of so many flashbacks as I like to know what is happening in the present (once again, this is really a PERSONAL issue, so if you are not bothered with this kind of thing, then I wouldn't worry). Also, the story is one that involves the Gods and their "enforcers" known as Tamshiel that walk upon the world in mortal flesh. I will not say much more on this, but I was never a fan of books that have these types of "semi-immortal" characters in plots, as these characters are all-powerful from the get-go. I will not go much more in detail with this as it may end up spoiling some things. Once again, personal preference here. Overall, if you aren't bothered by the things I did not like in the reading, then I would say the rating would be a 4/5 stars. Regardless, Ghost is a good book and would recommend it to those who enjoyed Aisling.
Book 1 of Wolfs-own
Dwelling in the land of Ada and defending magic users called the Jin, Fen Jacin-rei is a trained assassin and an Untouchable, one whose mind hosts the Voices of the Ancestors, spirits of long-dead magicians. His fate should be one of madness and solitude, yet Fen Jacin-rei desperately clings to his sanity and ferociously protects the family he loves. But how does Fen do it? Kamen Malick has every intention of finding out.
When Malick and his own small band of assassins ambush Fen in an alley, Malick offers Fen one choice: join us or die. Determined to decode the intrigue that surrounds Fenand to have the Untouchable for himselfMalick sets to unraveling Fens past while Fen delves into the mysteries surrounding Malick.
As Fens secrets slowly unfold, Malick is drawn into a crusade that isnt his, one surprisingly similar to his own quest for vengeance. Yet irony is a bitter reward when Malick discovers the one he wants is already hopelessly entangled with the one he hunts.

| Note | ePub, short for electronic publication is one of our favorites and should be yours for a couple of reasons. ePub offers reflowable text giving you flexibility to manipulate how the digital content is presented. Moreover, lots of cool features are now being developed for the reader like advanced video and audio. ePub is now an industry standard, so all of the device manufacturers are now supporting it?. except of course those two proprietary (ie: we don't want you to have a choice) online behemoths: Apple and Amazon - who seek to chain you like a trailer park dog forever to their devices. Three years from now, we predict ePub will rule the eBook landscape. |
